Fun Fiddle classes

Fun Fiddle is run by Gica Loening, alongside tutors Rona Wilkie, Ros Gasson, and Marit Falt.  They offer group classes and one to one lessons, with a relaxed and friendly approach, for adults and children wishing to take up, or become re-acquainted with playing the fiddle (violin). There’s no need to be able to read music as much of the learning is by ear, with music available too.

Based at the Wash house for the last ten years or so, Fun Fiddle continues to attract a wide range of participants from age 5 to 75, including new absolute beginners, right up to those who have been fiddling for years! The approach is very inclusive, with learners from all kinds of backgrounds and ages taking part, and playing by ear without needing to read music.  2017 -18 saw around 35 adults and 20 children taking part in weekly classes and local performances, with the annual highlight being the Wash house ceilidh (November 2017). In December we were thrilled to be nominated for ‘Community Project of the Year’ at the hands Up for Trad Traditional Music awards ceremony. Im May 2018 We took to the streets in a lively musical parade on Porty Promenade in collaboration with Brass Blast.
