The Wash House hosts many regular activities that encourage and support health, wellbeing and life-long learning for the benefit of the local community.
The centre is also ideal for both professional and amateur arts activities and we can cater for all ages and provide wheelchair access.
We have three rooms, and a kitchen and a large main hall available for hire. The main hall is complete with a stage, lighting rig, blackouts, and PA - ideal for larger functions.
The Wash House in Adelphi Grove is a hidden gem with fun and accessible activities on offer and a great space for community gatherings.

Post of Treasurer
The Wash House is looking for a Treasurer to join its Committee of Trustees.
We are a thriving local centre in the heart of Portobello, offering a welcoming meeting place and base for local people, with social, cultural and educational activities for all ages and a place for people to get involved in local community life. It is run by a volunteer management committee who oversee the smooth running of the centre.
We are looking for a Treasurer to join our team and would love to hear from you!
In Brief:
Role Title: Management Committee Treasurer
Member of/elected by: The Wash House Management Committee
Reports to: The Wash House Management Committee
Term of Office: Three years (with re-election up to 2 further times)
Position: Voluntary (unpaid); reasonable expenses
Time commitment: A monthly meeting, and 1 – 2 hours per week (sometimes less!)
Responsibilities:
The treasurer’s primary role is to assist and advise the board in overseeing the finances. Tasks include:
controlling and accounting for the organisation’s finances
issuing receipts for cash received, keeping records of cash paid out and being a counter signatory to any major banking transactions
overseeing bookkeeping using Xero programme
presenting financial reports, raising issues and answering questions at regular meetings and the AGM
liaising with the auditors or financial examiners for the annual review of accounts
ensuring statutory returns are made to any relevant regulators
We are looking for someone with a solid understanding of financial reporting, forecasting, management, policies and procedures, alongside an interest in supporting community activity.
We would love to hear from anyone interested in taking up this role. We are a friendly, sociable team, and there would be support and induction provided.
