About the Wash House

The building, in Adelphi Grove in the heart of Portobello, was converted from Portobello’s steamie in 1979 to Portobello’s community centre. It is now known as “The Wash House” and is owned and maintained by The City of Edinburgh Council. Income generated from classes and events are managed by a committee of volunteers with support from a part-time council administrator.

The volunteer management committee meet on the first Monday of each month to oversee the running of the building and coordinate events and projects. We are always looking for new volunteers to bring new ideas and skills to the committee, so if you would like to be involved, we would love to have you on board!
